EU Rules for Recruitment

Early Stage Researchers are defined as those who are, at the time of selection, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is envisaged.

Experienced Researchers (ER) must, at the time of recruitment, either be in possession of a doctoral degree, independently of the time taken to acquire it, or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience, including the period of research training. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which formally allowed them to embark on a doctorate.

The research experience of an ER may not exceed 5 years at the time of the appointment.

Researchers can be nationals of ANY country other than the country of the premises of the host organisation where they will carry out their project.

Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the country of the host for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment.
