Travel to Regensburg
- Flying into Munich (highly recommended):
- The easiest option to reach Regensburg from Munich International is to use the Airportliner Shuttle service. They pick you up at the airport and drop you off directly at your hotel. At their website you can book on-line. The price is 34 Euros per person one-way, but if you travel in groups of two or more and are going to the same hotel, then it is 24.50 Euros per person.
- Another option is to take the bus (#635) to Freising ("Fry-Zing") and then to take the train to Regensburg. The bus goes every 20 minutes and the trains run within every hour, until about 11:30pm. You can check the Deutsche Bahn website for more detailed and up-to-date information on schedules and fares (enter "MUC Munich Airport T" or "Freising" for the departure station). The bus ticket is 2.20 Euros (available from the driver) and the train from Freising to Regensburg (ticket machines at the Freising train station) costs about 16 Euros. Again, there is a cheaper option for groups: You can buy a "Bayern Ticket" from the bus driver for 27 Euros. This is valid for both the bus and the train and for up to 5 people. At the Regensburg train station there are taxis available, but many hotels in the "Altstadt" are only a few minutes walk away.
- Flying into Frankfurt:
The only realistic option for reaching Regensburg from Frankfurt is to take the train, see the Deutsche Bahn website for schedules and fares (enter "FRA FrankfurtAirport" for the departure station). The price is about 60 Euros one-way and the trip takes about 3.5 hours. The direct trains from Frankfurt Airport to Regensburg travel every 2 hours until about 6pm (later trains with one connection go until about 8pm).
- Flying into Nuremberg (Nürnberg):
The Airportliner Shuttle (see above) also services Nuremberg airport. The cost is 49 Euros per person. The group rate is 24.50 Euros per person. You can also get from Nuremberg Airport to Regensburg by subway and train, see the Deutsche Bahn website (enter "Nuremberg Airport" for the departure station).
For train connections to Regensburg, please check the Deutsche Bahn website for schedules and fares. Regenburg has only one train station called "Hauptbahnhof" (Hbf).
Regensburg ist at the intersection of Autobahn A3 (aka E56) and Autobahn A93, see this map. Please observe the speed limits (if any).
