Monte-Carlo simulation of the lattice Gross-Neveu model: standard representation vs. fermion loops

We discuss a Monte–Carlo simulation of the 2d lattice Gross–Neveu model for one flavor. The four–fermi interaction is written as a Gaussian integral with an auxiliary scalar field and the fermion determinant is included by reweighting. The same model is investigated using a fermion loop representation. In this formulation the fermion sign problem can be eliminated completely. Results for bulk observables, such as condensates or susceptibilities, from the standard approach are compared to those from the loop representation. Finally, an assessment of advantages and disadvantages of the two different formulations is given.
