The impact of localized overlap eigenmodes on RMT measurements and topology

We study the eigenvalue spectrum of the overlap operator and find that it contains localized eigenmodes, spoiling the Random Matrix Theory description of the low energy eigenvalue distribution. These localized modes are the remnants of lattice dislocations and their density can be influenced by using a smeared link kernel operator and also by lowering the overlap parameter R. Mixed action and quenched simulations are particularly strongly effected by the localized modes, but they could be present in dynamical overlap simulations as well.
